Mary earned a Bachelor's degree in Music Education from Western Carolina University in Cullowhee, NC. Her instrumental concentrations were bassoon, clarinet and piano, with a strong secondary concentration in choral music. As a music education major, she was required to pass proficiency exams on all instruments, as well as theory and music history.
Mary has been involved in church choir programs since the second grade, but has also studied pipe organ, piano, clarinet and bassoon since childhood. Mary's mother, grandmother and great-grandmother were all music educators. Although her passion is music, she was led to ministry after college and has been an ordained Presbyterian minister since 1980. During this time in ministry she has always participated in the church music program - singing, accompanying and sharing her talent on bassoon, piano and hand bells. She is presently serving a church in Titusville.
At various times, she has played with different community groups, including a two year stint as principal bassoonist with the Asheville (North Carolina) Symphony. Playing keyboard with a contemporary Christian band in Melbourne, FL was an experience she will never forget!
Mary has held memberships in the National Association of Parliamentarians; is currently a member of P.E.O. (a women's philanthropic education organization), and is also a member of the East Coast Music Club, the Florida Federation of Music Clubs, and the National Federation of Music Clubs.
When not working, Mary enjoys her three Dalmatians, riding her motorcycle, kayaking and writing.
